A New Look for a New Decade

08.01.16

Embarking upon a new decade of practice, we sought a refreshed logo and new website to embody our singular commitment to designs that uplift and enrich the communities we serve. Our people, culture, and dedication to educational projects remain constant, while our brand expresses new paths for advancing the work of our firm as we grow towards the half century mark.

In short, a brand update offered us the opportunity to both:

1) Closely examine what our array of branded material communicates to the world about our mission and vision for design, and

2) Refine our brand to better reflect where we as a firm are, in terms of reach and impact.

Working with The Future Forward, we selected a brand concept and worked from there to refine the logo; associated visual identity system of typography, color palette, and graphic elements; and style guide for various print and marketing materials.

We believe the refreshed logo, and collection of branded elements, communicates “VMDO” as a comprehensive symbol of our innovative work and approach – as opposed to an assortment of letters related to our founders’ last names. Representing VMDO as a singular mark with a singular vision of uplifting the communities we serve was ultimately the goal of the re-brand.

Our refreshed materials and new website (also designed by The Future Forward) were carefully designed to create a more editorial feel – communicated through bold imagery, thoughtful content, and clean graphics. This editorial aesthetic comes across powerfully on our homepage and “Work” section – which houses our sortable portfolio of experience.

The “Design” section reflects the mission, thought leadership, and organization of our three architectural studios (K12, Higher Education, and Athletics + Community) as well as our three complementary design services of Environmental Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Sustainable Design. In the “Firm” section, we invite you to learn more about our mission, culture, and accolades. Finally, in our blog, we aim to communicate the latest thought leadership from our work in the field and through our collaborations and design + research innovation.

In perusing our new website, we hope you enjoy an immersive experience that allows you to explore the stories of our projects and clients, the mission of our firm, and the passion of our people.
