press release VMDO Architects Now Has Five LEED® Accredited Professionals Jan. 18, 2005—Liz Hoogheem and Ellen Leuenberger are VMDO Architects' newest LEED® Accredited Professionals. Hoogheem and Leuenberger join VMDO's three other LEED® AP's Bill Bradley, Rob Winstead, and Rebecca Stinnette in obtaining this professional designation. VMDO specializes in design for educational institutions. The U.S. Green Building Council developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED®, Green Building Rating System as a set of national performance standards for sustainable buildings. The program helps architects, designers, and building industry professionals assess new developments in energy-efficient materials and systems that can be passed along as both financial savings and savings to the environment. More and more, Virginia schools are requesting that their buildings be LEED® Accredited to minimize the impact of construction on their community and take advantage of readily accessible life-cycle cost savings. More information about LEED® standards can be found at www.usgbc.org/LEED. VMDO Architects was founded in 1976 and is the 2003 recipient of the T. David Fitz-Gibbon Virginia Architecture Award, the most prestigious honor given by the Virginia Society of American Institute of Architects.
