LEED Projects
At VMDO, sustainability is integral to our business philosophy and our design approach. We do not rely on LEED consultants to evaluate solutions or coordinate project certifications—we cultivate these skills in all of our employees and collaborate with consultants who do the same. Our ambitious efforts are led by an in-house Director of Sustainable Design, Steve Davis. Steve oversees each of VMDO’s sustainable design initiatives and offers valuable insight as an in-house leader of green building research. In addition, Steve provides project visioning across all phases—especially as it relates to human health and low-energy design.
A Leadership Position
Over the last eight years, VMDO has established a leadership position in the green building sector as evidenced by our expertise in delivering high-performance, sustainable buildings earning the following recognition:
- Certification of the first three LEED Gold public elementary schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- LEED Platinum certification for the University of Virginia’s College at Wise Science Center Renovation. The building is the first platinum project for the University of Virginia and the College at Wise and the second higher education construction project in the Commonwealth of Virginia to achieve the prestigious rating.
- AIA Committee on the Environment Top Ten Award for Manassas Park Elementary School—widely considered the highest national honor for sustainable design.
Additionally, our staff is extremely knowledgeable with the entire LEED process. 8 out of 9 Design Principals, 15 out of 17 Registered Architects, and 71% of our total architectural staff have achieved LEED AP status.
