Alan was drawn to design for Higher Education and K12 projects as a result of spending his childhood living in the Netherlands, where the Dutch value creating learning environments that are as inviting and welcoming as possible for young students. This experience, in addition to architecture school and practicing architecture, has allowed Alan to appreciate the quality of the spaces in which people learn. Over time, this appreciation led to a passion for learning about the functional aspect of buildings and solving the technical and coordination challenges unique to each project – from the early, conceptual questions to the smallest of construction details. Alan enjoys collaborating and coordinating with teams to bring conceptual ideas and designs into a tangible, buildable, and workable reality. He also values the opportunity to mentor and train younger staff while encouraging them to take ownership of various parts of a project.
