A 2014 graduate of Virginia’s School of Architecture, Alex came to architecture from a history of building and design through making. He worked with the University’s Drama department welding and crafting at the scale of the stage and occasionally at the scale of monsters during his work for the Stan Winston Creature Festival. Across the quad in the School of Architecture, Alex pursued his computational interests with the digital fabrication tools available. He worked on projects milling, printing, cutting, routing, and once carving a pumpkin with a robot. These shenanigans landed him a job with the IT department as a helping hand and mentor to other students running workshops on software integration and design through computing. The disparate nature of these pursuits brings a wide view to projects, informed by both the practical physicality and the necessary rationalizations.
