Alissa Tucker

Alissa is a Charlottesville native, a photo enthusiast, and a Hokie through and through. Her education at Virginia Tech provided her with a solid foundation in design theory and technical skills, and focused on developing conceptual ideas that shape interior space. During her final year, a collaborative project with architecture students to design a youth center sparked her interest in understanding the built environment on a larger scale, and catalyzed her love of creating educational spaces that inspire young minds.

Alissa joined VMDO after graduating in 2013. She has since gained experience on a wide range of project work within each practice area, and has collaborated with teams to design elementary schools, athletic practice facilities, and, most recently, a campus tower. She thrives within a team atmosphere and loves the camaraderie found in studio. Alissa enjoys design at every scale, from environmental graphics to the building site, and is inspired by architecture’s ability to merge design, community, and nature into a built solution. Nothing brings her more fulfillment than designing spaces and places that will positively impact the end users.

After soaking up as much knowledge as she can from the talented team at VMDO, Alissa plans to further her professional and intellectual interests by attending graduate school for architecture.
