Bhargavi is a designer and research enthusiast who joined VMDO in 2024 after graduating with a Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia. She is curious, insightful and motivated to create architecture that is socially relevant and culturally sensitive. Having grown up in Bangalore, India, she worked on projects of various scales—including the design of a low-cost and climate-effective school for underprivileged children—prior to graduate school.
She enjoys the interdisciplinary and entangled nature of architectural projects, stemming from the belief that good design is an act of compassion for the human and non-human beings with whom we share the world. In addition to architectural work, her portfolio includes fun design projects which draw from this tenet— from hand-crafted furniture made of discarded wood to sculptural models made from upcycled stationery.
As a history buff, Bhargavi is deeply inspired by the ingenuity and resilience of cities, marketplaces, local cultures and food traditions. Walking through city streets, foraging through farmers’ markets, cooking and dabbling in fermentation projects are activities she counts as hobbies outside the design studio.
