Joe Celentano is a VMDO Principal and the Studio Leader of Athletics + Community with over 30 years of architectural experience. His body of work reflects his acute interest in the craft of building and his understanding how each part of a structure contributes to an integrated design. Joe’s varied experience and deeply involved approach produce creative designs that are well-informed and functionally sound—and where the aesthetic of each component fits appropriately within its surrounding context.
Joe has designed a multitude of award-winning projects which have been recognized by the American Institute of Architects, American School & University, and the Virginia School Boards Association. His designs are influenced in part by his intensive study abroad where he was exposed to a broad range of international architectural styles. Joe’s work also speaks to his experience with cabinet making and carpentry, a background where he developed his sense of craftsmanship and awareness that the final product is more than the sum of its parts.
