AIA

Project Architect

Tyler joined VMDO in 2022, returning to Charlottesville after studying and working in Boston, Massachusetts and Washington D.C. Originally from Oregon, Tyler completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia with degrees in Urban Planning and Foreign Affairs. Since graduation Tyler has worked on complex and demanding educational, ecclesiastical, institutional, commercial, and cultural projects across the country.

Tyler believes that architecture is the coalescence of human intentions and that what we build reflects our values. Tyler strives to ensure that every design decision, from the selection of a site down to the components of a mortar mix or roof assembly, reflects our best intentions and leads to projects that promote equality, beauty, and environmental justice. Further, Tyler asserts that building reuse is climate action and that the thoughtful stewardship of our existing buildings is critical to creating sustainable, beautiful, and fulfilling places for our lives to unfold.

As a Project Architect Tyler thrives working with clients, consultants, and contractors to envision new buildings and breathe life back into existing and historic structures. Driven to find beautiful solutions to complex problems, Tyler loves seeing projects through from concept to completion.

When he isn’t working, Tyler loves to enjoy a good beer, the company of his cats, and the freedom afforded by running in the mountains.
