The new housing at Florida State University’s Northwest Precinct transforms an underused site area into a dynamic and welcoming part of the campus experience where students gather to dine, enjoy recreation, and reside in a vibrant learning community. Designed in partnership with Walker Architects, the project represents an opportunity to connect to, and extend, FSU’s strong campus identity through a memorable, campus landscape. The architectural character reinforces this identity through familiar Collegiate Gothic massing and materials, along with climate-responsive features to provide shade, cooling breezes, and landscape connections through open courtyards.
In addition to expanding on-campus housing capacity, the residence halls provide a student-centered home through the integration of various community spaces at every scale. Floor level common spaces include a lounge, kitchen, and study space to create a sense of connection among floormates. Meanwhile, Neighborhood Hubs activate the ground floors and create centers of gravity for academic engagement and social connection between students and faculty resources.
Dining is elevated as a premier crossroads for FSU student life, capturing the feel of a pedestrian boulevard with food venues on either side. The Market located at the dining entry includes fast-casual and retail options, while a full All You Care to Eat dining program is organized in an open kitchen style. A loft area, accessible by a monumental stair, features reservable dining rooms that offer flexibility for both student and campus programming.
