A nationally recognized expert in learning space planning and design and sustainability, Rob is an advocate for exceptional learning spaces that blend thoughtful design with high performance goals to deliver added value for clients and users. Rob is committed to a collaborative, integrated, and inclusive process that complements VMDO’s relationship-based approach to developing customized solutions for clients and communities.
He is a frequent speaker at national and regional conferences and an active and engaged leader in the school design community. In 2018, he was named the Planner of the Year by the Virginia Association for Learning Environments (A4LE). In 2023, he was elevated as a LEED Fellow by the US Green Building Council and in 2025, he was named an Icon in Education Design by Learning by Design magazine. His innovative work at multiple scales has been recognized with numerous awards for planning, design, architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, and sustainability.
